Trump said, "The Gulf allies believe a deal will be made" that includes "NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOR IRAN."
The US military has been notified, according to Trump, "that we will NOT be doing the scheduled attack of Iran tomorrow."
However, he claimed to have "further instructed them to be prepared to go forward with a full, large-scale assault of Iran, on a moment's notice, in the event that an acceptable Deal is not reached."
In the days following his return from a visit to China to meet with President Xi Jinping, Trump had issued Iran a string of increasingly dire warnings.
He said that "there won't be anything left" of Iran if a peace agreement isn't struck late on Sunday, saying that the "clock is ticking."
Iran's Fars news agency reported on Sunday that Washington had offered a five-point list that included a demand that Iran relinquish its stockpile of highly enriched uranium to the United States and maintain only one nuclear plant.
According to Fars, the Iranian plan made it clear that Tehran will maintain control over the crucial Strait of Hormuz, an energy route that Iran has mainly blocked since the war began.
